This is week two. For those of you who are just tuning in, first of all welcome, take a seat, and make yourself cozy. Next off, I have read a bit more of the newest book I bought, entitled Creativity, Inc. Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration written by Ed Catmull with Amy Wallace, which essentially documents the creation of Pixar Animation Studios. For a non-fiction, I'm quite surprised just how linear the book is. What I mean by that is that rather than feel like a bunch of events and facts piled into one book, it feels more like a continuing plot, with each chapter building off the next to create a story, which really makes it feel like a fiction book rather than a non-fiction book. It's not gonna put you on the edge of your seat or anything, but as a reader I definitely can't put the book down.
I think what makes this quote so meaningful is how much it emphasizes an idea which is often undermined or ignored; the idea of working as a team. Everyday were encouraged to work in a group setting, and to coordinate projects and get things done as a team. But lets face it, how many of us really work together with our teammates?
When it comes down to it, there's always the one guy who does 98% of the work, followed by his/her teammates who do 1.5% of the work with the other .5% being left incomplete and annoying the entire team.
Unlike most group projects that you find in school settings, we all carried our own weight. Composed of me and two other classmates, we worked endlessly on this project with a drive for success carrying our own weight as we all had a common goal of creating the best game we could.
Until finally, we finished it.
Our teamwork really hit the mark when making Guardians of Sunshine and in my opinion one of the defining examples of the powers of cooperation in my own life.
Well, this was quite the long post. This weeks read was full of insightful ideas about how to run a company or even live out your life. Creativity, Inc. Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration by Ed Catmull with Amy Wallace is really an amazing piece of literature that is a very new experience for me, as it's a non-fiction that I actually find engaging. So next week, expect more connections, more quotes, and most of all, more creativity. "Later, buddy."
- The title "The Lights in the Sky are Stars" and the last sentence "Later, buddy." are quotes from the anime series Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann one of my favorite shows of all time. It featured themes of teamwork and believing in one's true self which I found fitting for this post. Click Here to learn more.
- Little Big Planet 2 is a game for the Playstation 3 created by Media Molecule. to learn more about the game click here. (I have a bunch of games that I made with my friends besides Guardians of Sunshine! Click here to check them out!)
- Guardians of Sunshine is a game originally incorporated in the plot of an episode of Adventure time. Click here to learn about that.
